Shakti Jung Basnet takes command of Nepal Army’s Eastern Division

ITAHARI: Major General Shakti Jung Basnet assumed command of the Nepal Army’s Eastern Division Headquarters in Itahari on Monday, succeeding Major General Gaurav Kumar KC.

Basnet, who joined the Nepal Army in 1990, has more than three decades of military experience and has held several senior command and leadership positions. He has served as commandant of the Nepal Army Command and Staff College and acting director general of the Directorate General of Military Intelligence, among other roles.

He has also participated in military courses and international conferences in several countries and served in UN peacekeeping missions in Lebanon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan.

The Eastern Division oversees security operations in Koshi Province and eastern Nepal and plays a key role in disaster response, strategic infrastructure development, heritage conservation and civil-military relations.

During KC’s tenure, the division focused on military heritage conservation, strategic road projects including the Khadbari-Kimathanka route, and disaster-response exercises. The division also supported security operations during communal tensions in Dewanganj, Sunsari.
