KATHMANDU: Rescuers have recovered six bodies from inside a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project following the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
The Nepal Army confirmed that the bodies were discovered during search operations for individuals who went missing after the floods on Aug. 26.
A joint rescue team, including project representatives, located the bodies trapped within the inner section of the rebar mesh used for tunnel lining at Audit 3.
The recovery team utilized grinders, gas cutters and rotary rescue tools to extract the remains. The Army noted that further shapes resembling bodies were observed buried in the silt inside the tunnel, and search operations in the area remain ongoing.
The project, which is being constructed with Korean investment, has been the site of the highest number of missing persons following the disaster. According to data available as of Thursday, out of a total workforce of 1,433, 936 people have been accounted for, while 492 remain missing.
