JHAPA: With the onset of the rainy season, the number of deaths from Japanese encephalitis (JE) infection has been steadily increasing in Jhapa.
The death toll from JE in the district has reached six following the death of a 64-year-old woman from Mechinagar Municipality–8.
According to Bishwanath Shrestha, Public Health Inspector at the District Health Office, the woman passed away last week.
With this, the total number of JE cases confirmed in the district has reached 11.
So far, six people—four women and two men—have succumbed to the infection.
He informed Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) that the health office has scaled up testing for Japanese encephalitis across various parts of the district and has continuously deployed teams of health workers for field monitoring.
