Sixteen arrested in nationwide narcotics sweep

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have arrested 16 individuals across eight districts during routine patrolling operations after intercepting them with various illegal drugs and prescription-only controlled substances, according to an update from the Central Police Newsroom.

The coordinated arrests took place across Kathmandu, Morang, Jhapa, Dhanusha, Parsa, Kanchanpur, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta Paschim) and Banke.

In Kathmandu, officers detained three men—Binay Kumar Mandal (37), Manish Shahi (38), and Pradeep Kumar Rai (38)—at Kapan Tenzing Chowk in KMC-6 with approximately one gram of a substance resembling brown sugar.

Similar brown sugar seizures occurred in Morang, where Bivek Rai (31) was caught with 3.2 grams, and in Banke, where Osis Khan (24) was arrested with 900 milligrams.In Jhapa district, five individuals—including a 17-year-old youth and men aged 23 to 30—were taken into custody across Birtamode and Jhapa Rural Municipality for possessing varying amounts of the same substance.

Meanwhile, law enforcement intercepted larger quantities of other illicit drugs in eastern and southern regions.

In Dhanusha, police arrested Rajan Yadav (19) and Ram Balak Paswan (26) with 22.58 grams of brown heroin, while Janak Khadka (24) was caught carrying 1.84 grams of the drug in Kanchanpur.

In Parsa, 65-year-old Ramdayal Mahara was apprehended with roughly 500 grams of cannabis.

Additionally, police in Nawalparasi West arrested Sunil BK (28) and Dipesh BK (31) after seizing a prescription pharmaceutical stash containing 100 Spasmo tablets along with 65 total ampoules of Diazepam, Phenergan, and Buprenorphine.
