KATHMANDU: A driver was killed and five staff members of SOS Children’s Village were injured after a jeep met with an accident in Lalitpur on Monday evening.

The accident occurred at Katan Bhanjyang in Mahankal Rural Municipality-2 when a Scorpio jeep (BaA 4639) was travelling from Gotikhel in Mahankal Rural Municipality-3 toward Chapagaun, according to police.

The deceased has been identified as Shakti Prasad Adhikari, 54, of Koteshwor, Kathmandu, who was driving the vehicle. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at B&B Hospital in Gwarko.

The Scorpio plunged around 50 meters off the road. The vehicle belongs to SOS Children’s Village Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, and was carrying six people, including the driver, all of whom were employees of the organization.

Among the five injured, four are receiving treatment at B&B Hospital in Gwarko, Lalitpur, while one is being treated at the Manikhel Health Post in Mahankal Rural Municipality-2.

The injured have been identified as Sasmita Khatiwada, 39, of Koteshwor, Kathmandu; Bharat Poudel, 35, originally from Gaindakot, Nawalparasi, currently residing in Kathmandu; Dina Sonaha, 36, originally from Bardiya and currently living in Kathmandu; Devendra Raj Pandey, 26, originally from Nuwakot and currently residing in Kathmandu; and Nishan Maharjan, 39, of Kirtipur Municipality-5, Kathmandu.

Health officials said all five injured are in stable condition and out of danger.
