KATHMANDU: US satellite internet provider Starlink has offered to provide its services free of charge to support rescue and relief operations following the devastating floods in areas along the Nepal–Tibet border.
In a message posted on X on Saturday, Starlink said it was ready to support the Nepal government and humanitarian organizations involved in relief efforts.
The company said it would provide the necessary equipment kits and activate the service free of charge as soon as it receives approval from the Nepal government.
Starlink said its satellite internet could prove particularly effective in areas where roads, bridges and mobile phone towers have been destroyed by floods and landslides.
“When roads and communications networks are cut off, Starlink has proven critical for rescue teams, medical teams treating the injured, and families searching for missing loved ones,” the company said.
