DHANGADHI: The Sudurpashchim provincial government has decided to expedite the budget formulation process to address the current budget vacuum in the province.
The previous government’s budget failed to pass, leaving the province without a functional budget.
A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Khagaraj Bhatta on Saturday decided to review, revise and rewrite the previously proposed budget to end the state of fiscal uncertainty.
Government spokesperson Prakash Rawal confirmed that the cabinet has granted the Ministry of Economic Affairs the authority to proceed with the necessary procedures for drafting the new budget.
The government plans to review existing projects and programs based on the province’s current needs and priorities. Rawal stated that the budget will be finalized in coordination with relevant ministries and agencies, ensuring that available resources and public concerns are prioritized.
This decision follows a consensus reached during an all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Bhatta on Friday, where political leaders agreed to move forward with the budget process immediately.
Additionally, the cabinet meeting expressed gratitude to Chief Secretary Baikuntha Prasad Aryal, who has been transferred from the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers.
The provincial government is now preparing to complete the necessary formalities to have the budget passed by the provincial assembly.
