KATHMANDU: A habeas corpus petition seeking the release of Kishor Shrestha, chairman of Aastha Prakashan Pvt. Ltd. and editor of Jana Aastha weekly, has been listed for hearing at the Supreme Court.
The petition is scheduled to be heard by a joint bench of Justices Balkrishna Dhakal and Nahakul Subedi.
Shrestha, a senior journalist, was arrested from his residence in Lalitpur on Wednesday night. His wife, Saraswati Shrestha, filed the habeas corpus petition at the Supreme Court, seeking his release from custody.
On August 14, Justice Dhakal’s single bench had ordered the authorities to produce Shrestha before the court on September 1, along with computers, laptops and other electronic devices seized from the Jana Aastha office and his residence.
Shrestha, who is currently being held at Maharajgunj Police Station, is being brought before the court today in compliance with the order.
