KATHMANDU: Switzerland has provided Nepal with an advanced drone to support search and rescue operations in hydropower tunnels and other hazardous underground areas.
The drone, manufactured by Swiss company Flyability, has been handed over to the Nepal Electricity Authority following an initiative by Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha’s secretariat.
Designed to operate in dark, narrow and dangerous tunnels, the drone is equipped with a protective cage that allows it to withstand collisions.
It will help rescue teams assess risks, locate trapped people and plan safer and more effective rescue operations.
