Tatopani border crossing to open for three days

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: The major trade border crossing with China, Tatopani, is set to open temporarily for three days. The decision follows discussions between Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Deepak Kumar Sah and Chinese officials.

The Chinese authorities agreed to open the border in response to a formal request from the Nepali side, aimed at facilitating the supply of essential goods to the Nepali market ahead of the Dashain festival.

The crossing will remain operational from Oct. 18 to 20. During this period, movement will be restricted to cargo trucks and freight vehicles that are currently stranded on Chinese soil and have already completed customs clearance procedures.

The government initiated diplomatic and trade-level efforts to address concerns regarding potential shortages and price hikes of consumer goods during the festive season.

Many containers carrying Chinese goods had been stuck at the border, causing difficulties for local traders.

The reopening of the crossing is expected to ensure that clothing, fruits, and other essential supplies reach the market in time for the festival, providing relief to both businesses and consumers.
