KATHMANDU: The taxpayer incentive prize draw, which was postponed due to the Bhotekoshi flood, has been rescheduled for Sept. 17.
The Inland Revenue Department confirmed that winners for the month of August will be announced on this date. The program was introduced in the current fiscal year’s budget to encourage consumers to request bills and adopt formal tax payment systems.
Director General Dr. Bhishma Kumar Bhusal stated that in the first phase, 15 winners will be selected from those who registered bills or made online purchases between Aug. 17 and Aug. 31, alongside one bumper prize winner.
In the second phase, covering the latter half of the month, another 16 daily winners and one bumper prize winner will be selected. In total, 33 individuals will be awarded prizes.
Daily winners will receive Rs 133,334, while bumper prize winners will receive Rs 1 million. After a 25 percent tax deduction, the net cash prizes will be Rs 100,000 and Rs 750,000, respectively.
To qualify, consumers must obtain a genuine VAT or PAN bill for purchases exceeding Rs 100. Transactions made via online payment are automatically included in the incentive system, while those paying in cash must upload their bills to the department’s portal to receive a coupon. A total of 33 people received prizes in the month of July.
