BHAKTAPUR: Tension has risen at a rehabilitation centre in Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur, after a young man staying at the facility died during treatment early Sunday.

According to the District Police Range Bhaktapur, the youth, who was staying at Utsahit Rehabilitation Centre in Sirutar, Suryabinayak-1, died at around 4 a.m. after being taken to hospital following health complications.

Other residents at the centre, however, have alleged that the youth was assaulted and killed. They staged protests and chanted slogans demanding an investigation into the incident and action against those responsible.

Police have been deployed at the rehabilitation centre to prevent the situation from escalating, the District Police Range said.

Police have begun an investigation to determine the actual cause of the youth’s death.
