BHAKTAPUR: Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has said he will unite the party without compromising its core values and principles.

Speaking at an event in Bhaktapur, Thapa said the party could not be united by sacrificing its “soul” following the Supreme Court’s latest order, which has increased pressure on the party leadership to pursue unity.

He said the Congress would be united without undermining the decisions, ideas and spirit endorsed by its special general convention. Thapa said an office-bearers’ meeting would be held Saturday, followed by a Central Working Committee meeting from Sunday to take necessary decisions.

He also pledged to build a Congress that its members could be proud of, saying they should be able to openly declare, with pride, that they are loyal to the party.
