Three tiers of government urged to work together for development of education sector

SUDURPASCHIM: Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has emphasized that all three levels of government need to work together for the development of the education sector.

Addressing the three-day provincial orientation programme on education sector policies, programmes, budget, and implementation processes in Dhangadhi, Kailali today, he said that improvements in education are only possible through coordination at all levels.

“We can’t carry out effective works in the education sector without working together with the province and local levels. So, let us move forward together by following the 10th amendment of the Education Regulations and the provisions of other acts and laws,” Minister Pokharel said.

Minister Pokharel expressed his belief that all problems can be solved through dialogue, saying that it is necessary to have as much dialogue as possible with all stakeholders when making education acts, policies, and laws.

Director of the Department of Education Ana Prasad Neupane, mentioned that the orientation was organized with the aim of establishing a common understanding between the province, local levels, and the Education Development and Coordination Unit (EDCU) in the implementation of various policies, laws, guidelines, standards, and annual programmes related to the education sector.

In the orientation, discussion and orientation about the education programmes of the province, EDCU, and local levels for the fiscal year 2083/84 will be conducted, informed the Head of the Coordination Unit Kailali, Jeevan Neupane.

In the orientation, information will be provided about education policy, programmes, and budget, as well as indicators and budget releases related to the provisions and programmes under the ‘Sector Wide Approach’.

Similarly, discussion will be held on the programmes of provinces, EDUs, and local levels for the fiscal year 2083/84, as well as training will be provided on developing annual strategic implementation plans and annual work plans and budgets based on local education plans.

This is expected to help local levels figure out how to link their approved education plans with the annual programme and budget. Also, there will be discussions on using the school education sector’s information management system and the data obtained from it.

It is stated that there will also be orientation on various standards and policies in the education sector.

The programme involves the participation of heads and representatives of education-related bodies from all nine districts of the province.
