TOKHA: The Nuwakot District Administration has restricted nighttime traffic along the Tokha-Chhahare road due to the heightened risk of landslides and mudslides caused by continuous rainfall.
Chief District Officer Shambhu Prasad Regmi said the road will be closed to non-essential vehicles from 10 pm to 5 am every day. The restriction applies to the main route linking Nuwakot with Dhading and the Rasuwagadhi border point with China.
The decision was taken after rainfall triggered landslides and mudslides at several locations along the road, particularly in the Ghattekhola area of Shivapuri Rural Municipality-8. The nighttime restriction, which came into effect on Monday night, will remain in force until further notice.
Emergency vehicles, including ambulances, will be permitted to operate during the restricted hours. Security personnel will also be deployed at vulnerable locations to monitor the situation and facilitate emergency movement.
Regmi urged the public, transport operators and other stakeholders to avoid unnecessary travel during the monsoon, especially at night, and to take necessary precautions while travelling.
The District Police Office, Nuwakot, has also appealed to the public to cooperate with the administration, citing the continued risks posed by unstable weather and road conditions.
For disaster-related information and assistance, people can contact the District Police Office at 100, the Armed Police Force at 1114, and the District Emergency Operations Center at 1234.
