KATHMANDU: The ‘Nepal Calling’ campaign launched by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation is yielding positive results.

On Wednesday evening, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Acting Director Sunil Sharma and Senior Officer Prem Prasad Bhattarai welcomed a 185-member corporate group from Bangladesh at Tribhuvan International Airport with traditional scarves and Dhaka topi caps.

Discussions surrounding Nepal’s tourism safety surfaced after flooding on August 26 in the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers, triggered by events in Girong County, Tibet.

In response, the Tourism Ministry, NTB, and tourism-related organizations issued communications clarifying that aside from specific areas in Rasuwa, Gorkha, and Nuwakot, Nepal’s major tourist destinations remain safe.

Following the ‘Nepal Calling’ initiative, delegates from Walton Plaza, a prominent Bangladeshi corporate firm, arrived in Nepal.

An additional 30 members of the group are scheduled to land in Kathmandu on September 18.

Acting Director and NTB Spokesperson Sharma noted that the arrival of such a large corporate contingent sends a reassuring message to the international tourism market, counteracting negative perceptions that arose after the recent floods.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, the Bangladeshi delegates remarked that Nepal is safe, open, and ready to welcome visitors, encouraging other travelers to visit as well.

The delegation’s visit is expected to strengthen corporate and tourism ties between Nepal and Bangladesh.

Tourism officials stated that the choice of Nepal by foreign visitors and corporate groups following a natural disaster demonstrates sustained international confidence in the country’s safety.

In a related development, a 133-member delegation representing two Sri Lankan travel bodies—the IATA Agents Association of Sri Lanka and the Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka—is set to land in Nepal on Thursday afternoon.

The organizations selected Nepal as the venue for their annual general meetings and will tour Kathmandu alongside other destinations from September 17 to September 20.

Additionally, heads and representatives from various SAARC-region institutions, including India, have been touring Nepal’s tourist spots and sharing photos to convey that the country remains a safe travel destination.
