Tribhuvan University Proposes Rs 30.87 Billion Budget

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan University has proposed a budget of Rs 30.87 billion for the upcoming fiscal year.

This proposal marks a 9.77 percent increase compared to the budget of the current fiscal year.

The university aims to generate 49.37 percent of this budget, amounting to Rs 15.24 billion, from its internal sources. The remaining 50.62 percent, or Rs 15.62 billion, is expected to be covered by government grants.

According to the budget document, 66.14 percent of the total allocation is earmarked for operational expenses, while 13.56 percent is allocated for capital expenditure.

The university noted that rising liabilities, driven by salary increments and a 100 percent increase in allowances for teaching and administrative staff, have significantly impacted its financial planning.

The university faces a potential shortfall of Rs 6.31 billion, exacerbated by a reduction in government grants. The expected government grant of Rs 7.31 billion is approximately Rs 4.5 million less than the amount allocated in the previous fiscal year.

Tribhuvan University has urged the government to ensure the timely release of mandatory funds. The institution warned that without adequate financial support, it may struggle to cover its regular operational expenses.
