KATHMANDU: Nepali superstar Pradeep Khadka, billionaire businessman Nirvana Chaudhary, Indian filmmaker Prashant Kumar Gupta and Bhutanese actor Sangay Tsheltrim have jointly produced the zombie thriller Tunnel 26, which is now ready for release.
The film brings together filmmakers, actors and technicians from Nepal, India and Bhutan in what its makers describe as an ambitious cross-border cinematic collaboration.
The film stars Nepali actors Anoop Bikram Shahi and Anna Sharma alongside Bhutanese actor Sangay Tsheltrim. The zombie thriller was shot about six months ago, while its post-production work is currently underway in Thailand.
According to the production team, Tunnel 26 will be released in Nepali, Bhutanese and Indian languages, with the project aiming to connect Nepali cinema with wider regional and international audiences.
The production team has also released the film’s teaser, offering viewers a first glimpse of its storyline and its distinctive take on the zombie-thriller genre.
For Khadka, Tunnel 26 marks his fourth production project after Escape, Thulo Manche and Eklai. Speaking about the project, Khadka said the team had designed the film with a global audience in mind and aimed to offer something new to viewers.
“We wanted to think a little more globally from the very beginning while designing this ambitious project. We hope to offer something new in line with the changing expectations and interests of audiences,” Khadka said.
The film is planned for a worldwide theatrical release in October, although the exact release date is expected to be announced within the next few weeks.
Alongside its theatrical release, the production team is also preparing to take Tunnel 26 to audiences through a leading Indian OTT platform.
Santosh Kumar Karki of Livens Studio, which is handling the film’s media management, said extensive promotional activities were being planned to reach audiences across Nepal, India and Bhutan.
The producers said details regarding the film’s budget and other production aspects would be made public soon.
