KATHMANDU: Two bills were prested in the House of Representatives during its latest meeting.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam submitted the ‘National Defense University Bill, 2026’ on behalf of Prime Minister and Defense Minister Balendra Shah.
Presenting the bill, Minister Gautam stated that the legislation aims to produce skilled, competent and responsible domestic and foreign human resources through high-level study, teaching and research in international relations and strategic fields.
She noted that the objective is to provide higher education and training to military and civilian officers within the country to address geopolitical sensitivities and evolving security challenges.
Separately, Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal introduced the ‘Diploma Engineering Council Bill, 2026’.
Additionally, Ojaswi Sherchan, chairwoman of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee, presented the ‘Report of the Committee on the National Forensic Science Laboratory (Establishment and Operation) Bill, 2026’, which originated in the National Assembly.
