POKHARA: A massive flood in the Modikhola River along the Kaski-Parbat border late Thursday night washed away two suspension bridges and stranded three people inside the Annapurna Mata Temple complex.
The floodwaters destroyed the bridge linking Annapurna Rural Municipality-5 and 6 near Birethanti in Kaski and also damaged the lower section of the temple.
A priest and two devotees remain trapped within the temple premises after rising water cut off access to the area. Armed Police Force Nepal’s No. 24 Kalika Battalion in Kaski has deployed a special rescue team to the site.
The Armed Police Force said a trained rescue unit consisting of four rope-rescue specialists and three divers reached the area overnight carrying the required disaster-response equipment.
DSP Shailendra Thapa said rescue personnel have been working continuously since daylight to bring the stranded individuals to safety.
