KATHMANDU: Two Y-20 military transport aircraft of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Sunday morning carrying emergency relief supplies for victims of the Bhotekoshi floods.
The two aircraft brought 13,200 items of emergency relief supplies weighing around 50 tonnes. The assistance includes tents, blankets, sleeping bags, compressed dry food and first-aid kits.
Four Chinese tunnel-rescue experts also arrived in Kathmandu aboard the aircraft along with rescue equipment to assist in emergency response and rescue operations.
The aircraft departed from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and reached Kathmandu after a flight of approximately three hours.
Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming and Nepal’s Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Mahabir Pun attended the handover ceremony for the relief supplies and welcomed the Chinese rescue experts.
Minister Pun received the relief supplies from Ambassador Zhang during the ceremony.
The arrival of the Chinese relief supplies and rescue experts comes as authorities continue rescue and relief efforts in areas affected by the Bhotekoshi floods.
A team of Chinese experts had already been deployed to the Nuwakot area on Saturday to assist with rescue operations.
