KATHMANDU: Two electricity transformers installed for irrigation purposes have been stolen in Nawalpur.
The thefts occurred at two separate locations in the district within a span of four days, affecting local farming activities.
A transformer used for the boring operations of the Sikhrauli Underground Irrigation Consumers Committee in Gaindakot Municipality-13 was stolen overnight.
Ward Chairman Madhukar Malla confirmed that the equipment was taken during the night from the fields where it was installed for irrigation.
Prior to this incident, another transformer installed for irrigation in the fields of Devchuli Municipality-17, Chhipeni Guthibagari, was stolen on Aug. 23.
The recurring thefts have raised concerns regarding the security of electrical equipment placed in agricultural areas and irrigation projects.
The loss of these transformers has disrupted irrigation for local farmers, who are now urging authorities to strengthen security measures for such infrastructure.
Police have stated that they have initiated investigations into both incidents.
