KATHMANDU: Two of the four bodies recovered from Pakistan’s Broad Peak in the Karakoram mountain range have been identified, confirming the deaths of a Nepali and an Omani climber.

According to Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, citing the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP), the bodies have been identified as Pur Bahadur Gurung of Nepal and Nadhira Ahmed Abdullah Al Harthy of Oman.

ACP President Major General Irfan Arshad said the identities of the remaining two bodies are yet to be confirmed.

The climbers were part of a 10-member expedition that went missing after being caught in an avalanche. The team comprised six Nepalis, one Pakistani, one Omani, one American and one Chinese climber.

The Nepali members of the expedition were Nirmal Purja, Pur Bahadur Gurung, Kili Pemba Sherpa, Nima Sherpa, Nawang Thindu Sherpa and Gyalu Sherpa. The other climbers were Nadhira Ahmed Abdullah Al Harthy of Oman, Sohail Sakhi of Pakistan, Wang Zhong of China and Mallory Gies of the United States.

The Pakistani government said all available rescue resources, including helicopters, have been deployed in an intensive search operation to locate the remaining missing climbers.
