KATHMANDU: The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has pledged technical and financial support for the reconstruction of flood-damaged infrastructure and long-term integrated development in Rasuwa.
The commitment was made during a meeting between Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal and UNOPS Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Sara Netzer, at the ministry on Thursday.
A high-level technical team from UNOPS, which recently conducted a field inspection of areas affected by the floods in the Bhotekoshi River, discussed post-flood recovery and infrastructure development with Minister Lamsal.
During the meeting, the minister provided details regarding the extensive damage caused by the floods on Aug. 26 and noted that government agencies are working continuously on restoration efforts. He emphasized that development plans are being formulated with a focus on the impacts of climate change, prioritizing the construction of water supply systems, temporary housing, and essential infrastructure in affected areas, including the Trishuli region.
Regional Director Netzer committed to providing institutional support for Nepal’s long-term and integrated development. She stated that UNOPS is prepared to integrate its international experience and technical expertise with Nepal’s reconstruction plans to ensure the effective mobilization of foreign aid for sustainable development.
She further confirmed the organization’s readiness to assist in the immediate restoration of critical infrastructure, including buildings, bridges, and water supply systems. The meeting was also attended by UNOPS Nepal representative Alexandra Radetic, Multi-Country Director for South Asia Charles Callan, and Senior Infrastructure Advisor Rico Valenta.
