KATHMANDU: The U.S. Embassy in Nepal has handed over a range of digital forensic software, hardware and other specialised equipment to the Nepal Police Digital Forensic Laboratory.

The equipment was formally handed over during a programme held at the Nepal Police Headquarters on Tuesday in the presence of Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Scott Urbom.

Addressing the event, Inspector General Karki said the U.S. Embassy had been providing advanced digital forensic equipment, specialised software and technical assistance to strengthen and develop the laboratory’s capabilities. He noted that such support reflects the trust, friendship and shared commitment between the two countries.

IGP Karki said the newly handed-over equipment would significantly enhance the capacity of the Digital Forensic Laboratory, improving the collection, preservation and analysis of digital evidence. Karki added that the equipment would strengthen investigations into cybercrime and help authorities obtain timely forensic results during emergencies.

Speaking at the programme, Chargé d’Affaires Urbom expressed confidence that the modern equipment would further enhance the capabilities of the Nepal Police Digital Forensic Laboratory and make a significant contribution to criminal investigations and evidence collection.

The event was attended by Nepal Police Central Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General of Police Abi Narayan Kafle, representatives of the U.S. Embassy and senior police officials.
