KATHMANDU: The vote counting process for the 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress has resumed following a brief suspension caused by a dispute over ballot boxes.
The counting process at the party’s central office in Sanepa was halted shortly after it began on Saturday.
The dispute arose after observers discovered that a ballot box from Madhesh Province was not properly sealed and lacked the necessary official documentation.
Ranjit Karna, a candidate for the inclusive vice-president position, stated that the matter was resolved after the election committee explained that the irregularities occurred due to hurried transport of the ballot boxes during heavy rainfall on Friday.
Following the clarification from the election committee regarding the procedural lapses, the parties reached an agreement to continue the counting.
The first phase of the count focuses on the positions of vice-president and general secretary.
The counting for the party president position has already concluded, and the senior vice-president has already been elected unopposed.
