KATHMANDU: Voting is currently taking place to elect a new leadership of the Patan High Court Bar Association.
The Association has the largest membership among high courts in the country.
Three factions— the Broader Progressive Professional Lawyers Association, the Democratic Lawyers Association, and the Independent Legal Practitioners Forum are competing in the election.
Chief Election Officer Shantiram Khatiwada said that the voting process is taking place through electronic voting machines. A total of 2,366 lawyers are eligible to vote in the election.
The leading candidates for the presidency are Sewant Raj Niraula from the Broader Progressive and Professional Lawyers Association, Devi Prasad Rijal from the Democratic Lawyers Association, and Bhesraj Pokhrel from the Independent Legal Practitioners Forum.
The election is taking place for a 19-member working committees, including nine office bearers. The voting that began at 8:00 AM will continue till 5:00 PM.
