KATHMANDU: Efforts are underway on a war footing to reopen the Krishnabhir section of the Prithvi highway in Chitwan, which was obstructed after the Trishuli river flood caused the road to collapse.
With the construction of a new track from the interior side now complete, authorities are preparing to resume full traffic movement within two to three days.
According to the Nagdhunga-Mugling road project (western section), work is progressing rapidly to grade down the new track and prepare the subgrade.
Teams are working day and night with necessary equipment and manpower. Following the completion of cutting work on Saturday, two bulldozers and two excavators are being used to improve the road grade. Once the grading is finished, rollers will be deployed to begin the compaction process.
Movement along the Krishnabhir section came to a complete halt after severe flooding in the Trishuli river, originating from Rasuwa’s Bhotekoshi, washed away the road’s foundation. Given that this highway serves as a vital lifeline connecting the capital to various parts of the country, the construction of the alternative track has been prioritized.
