A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: A 17-year-old girl from Kushe rural municipality-2 in Jajarkot district was airlifted to Surkhet district after developing complications during childbirth.

The teenage mother was rescued by a Nepal Army helicopter under a government programme that provides emergency air transport to pregnant and postpartum women facing life-threatening complications.

The aerial evacuation programme is implemented by the Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Social Security under the National Women Empowerment Project.

The programme provides free helicopter evacuation for expecting and new mothers experiencing severe complications, including excessive bleeding and other potentially fatal conditions that require urgent medical attention.

It aims to ensure that women in remote areas can reach health facilities in time, when difficult terrain and long travel distances could otherwise delay treatment.

The programme also covers critically ill newborns, helping ensure timely access to specialized medical care.
