KATHMANDU: Authorities have opened 31 gates of the Saptakoshi barrage as water levels in the river continue to rise. As of 2:15 pm, the water flow was measured at 240,555 cusecs, a level considered a sign of high danger.
The Flood Forecasting Division has issued an alert, requesting residents in low-lying coastal and flood-prone areas to remain on high alert as water levels continue to rise in Chatara.
According to the Koshi Project, the rising water levels have also increased the risk for the Bihar region in India. The project noted that the risk in Bihar increases proportionally as more gates are opened on the Nepali side of the barrage.
