KATHMANDU: Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has described skills as the foundation of societal and national prosperity. Addressing the skill and employment fair 2083 in Itahari, organized by the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, he emphasized the critical role of vocational training in the current era.
Highlighting that over 60 percent of Nepal’s population falls within the working-age group, Aryal stated that this massive workforce represents an extraordinary demographic dividend and opportunity for the country. However, he expressed concern that a mismatch between market demand and available skills is forcing many young Nepalis to seek employment abroad.
He pointed out the contradictory situation where domestic youth are leaving for jobs while local employers are forced to hire foreign workers due to a lack of skilled local labor. Aryal expressed confidence that the fair would serve as a vital link in translating the constitutional right to employment into practice. He noted that the initiative aims to create a shared platform between employers and job seekers to expand internal employment opportunities.
Aryal emphasized that internal employment can only be established as a reliable alternative through the coordinated efforts of all three tiers of government, the private sector, and development partners. He urged for widespread dissemination of the program’s significance to ensure maximum impact.
