KATHMANDU: A total of 954 people have benefited from a free eye treatment camp held in Rishing Rural Municipality of Tanahun district. The camp was organized jointly by the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, Bharatpur Eye Hospital, Inclusive Society for Work under the Nepal Association of the Blind, and Rishing Rural Municipality.
Mobile eye camps were conducted across all wards of the rural municipality from Oct. 3 to Oct. 7. Following the mobile sessions, a free cataract surgery camp was held at Kotdarbar Health Post on Oct. 9 and Oct. 10. According to Anil Amgain, the chief administrative officer of the rural municipality, 576 people received examinations and treatment for various eye-related issues among the total 954 beneficiaries.
During the program, 101 people suffering from near-vision problems were provided with spectacles, while 103 individuals underwent free cataract surgery. The initiative was specifically targeted at citizens who struggle to reach health facilities due to financial constraints and geographical difficulties. By providing eye examinations, treatment, distribution of glasses, and cataract surgeries at the local level, the rural municipality has increased access to healthcare services while saving time and expenses for residents. The free surgical services, in particular, have provided significant relief to patients from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
