KATHMANDU: Domestic airlines have agreed to sell tickets at rates lower than the approved ceiling following complaints regarding excessive airfare hikes during the festive season. The decision was reached after a directive from Prime Minister Balendra Shah and the active involvement of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadakraj Paudel.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal held discussions with representatives of domestic airlines to address the issue. During the meeting, the airlines agreed to offer tickets at prices below the government-approved maximum fare rates.
As part of the agreement, the airlines are required to publish information regarding the discounted fare rates through their official sales platforms. The government intervened after receiving complaints that companies were charging high prices by using the maximum limits set during a ministerial decision on Dec. 12, 2015, as a baseline for current festive season pricing.
