KATHMANDU: A total of 1,451 bodies have been recovered following the devastating Bhote Koshi river flood that occurred on August 26.
According to data released by Nepal Police on Monday morning, the recovered bodies include 236 in Rasuwa, 203 in Nuwakot, 72 in Dhading, 367 in Chitwan, 79 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi East, and 222 in Nawalparasi West. Additionally, two injured individuals died while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.
Authorities have managed 1,292 bodies so far. To assist in identification, 3,283 DNA samples have been collected from both the deceased and their relatives. Details of 1,362 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the official Nepal Police website for identification purposes.
A total of 7,975 police personnel have been deployed across the affected regions to conduct search, rescue, and relief operations. Efforts are ongoing to locate the 4,655 people who remain missing. Furthermore, 1,342 people are currently being sheltered in various holding centers across the affected districts.
