KATHMANDU: The death toll from the devastating Bhote Koshi flood reached 1,390 as of 5 a.m. Monday. According to Nepal Police, the fatalities include 186 in Rasuwa, 202 in Nuwakot, 71 in Dhading, 364 in Chitwan, 77 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 230 in Nawalparasi East, and 222 in Nawalparasi West.
Authorities have completed the management of 1,230 bodies after conducting necessary identification procedures, including DNA collection. A total of 3,132 DNA samples have been collected from the deceased and their relatives. Details of 1,354 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the official Nepal Police website.
A total of 7,975 police personnel are currently deployed in the flood-affected regions to assist with search, rescue, relief distribution, and body management operations. Search efforts continue for 4,089 individuals who remain missing. Meanwhile, 2,781 people are currently being housed in holding centers across various districts.
