Bhote Koshi floods: 1,355 dead, nearly 5,000 remain missing

KATHMANDU: The death toll from the Bhote Koshi floods has reached 1,355, with 4,993 people still reported missing, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

Data compiled by the authority as of 11:00 a.m. on Monday shows that Chitwan has recorded the highest number of fatalities with 363 bodies recovered. Other affected districts include Nawalparasi East with 222, Nawalparasi West with 221, Nuwakot with 197, Rasuwa with 169, Gorkha with 75, Dhading with 70, and Tanahun with 38.

A total of 21,402 security personnel from the Nepal Police, Nepal Army, and Armed Police Force have been deployed to the flood-affected regions for search and rescue operations. Authorities have successfully rescued 13,396 individuals from various locations. Additionally, 6,672 people injured in the floods have received medical treatment. Of these, 323 were treated at various hospitals, with 228 already discharged. The Nepal Army has provided medical care to 3,379 individuals, while the Armed Police Force has treated 2,970 people.
