KATHMANDU: A total of 13,396 people have been rescued alive following the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi river in Rasuwa on Aug. 26. The disaster has confirmed 1,357 deaths, while 5,326 individuals remain missing.
According to Shanti Mahat, spokesperson for the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, only 98 of the recovered bodies have been identified and handed over to their families so far. Among those missing, 2,860 are from Rasuwa and 1,981 are from Nuwakot. The list of missing persons also includes members of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, civil servants, and local residents from various districts.
Of those rescued, 3,533 people are being sheltered in 39 holding centers across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading, where the authority has provided food, clothing, and temporary shelter. A total of 6,827 affected people have received primary medical treatment. Out of 327 patients admitted to 10 different hospitals, 242 have been discharged after treatment. Additionally, the Nepal Army medical team has provided healthcare services to 3,404 people, while the Armed Police Force has treated 3,096 individuals.
The authority stated that search operations are being intensified by mobilizing the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and local mechanisms as a large number of people remain missing. Relief distribution and rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas have also been prioritized.
