KATHMANDU: The Bhotekoshi floods have caused significant loss of life and infrastructure in Rasuwa, leaving 38 students and 201 guardians missing. The disaster has left hundreds of children in a state of crisis and disrupted school operations across the district.
According to Pasang Lama, chairman of the Private and Residential Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON) in Rasuwa, the missing students include 19 from Gosaikunda Boarding School, 10 from Modern Trinity Boarding School, and nine from Highland Residential Secondary School. The floods also swept away the founding principal of Modern Trinity Boarding School, Suroj Dongol, and one teacher.
Data from PABSON indicates that many students have lost their guardians, including 46 from Gosaikunda Boarding, 42 from Highland Residential, 41 from Namuna Evergreen, 33 from Modern Trinity, 25 from Green Garden, nine from North Pole, and five from Himalayan schools. These children are now facing severe psychological and physical hardship, with their education remaining uncertain.
Lama stated that support, including food and essential supplies, has been provided to students staying in school hostels who have lost their guardians. Out of seven institutional schools in the district, five have resumed operations, while preparations are underway to reopen the remaining two. PABSON has appealed for further assistance to ensure the right to education for the affected children.
