BIRGUNJ: Birgunj Metropolitan City has introduced a new system allowing residents to pay land taxes directly at their respective ward offices. The initiative, aimed at simplifying tax payments for the public, will become mandatory across all ward offices starting Sept. 28, 2026.
Previously, residents were required to visit the main metropolitan office to settle their land tax obligations. The new policy is part of the metropolitan government’s broader effort to provide convenient, efficient and accessible services directly to citizens at their doorsteps.
Metropolitan Mayor Rajeshman Singh stated that the decision was made to eliminate unnecessary hassles for residents, allowing them to access services locally while saving time and travel costs. He emphasized that the metropolitan city is committed to decentralizing its services to bring them closer to the people.
Basanta Bahadur Bohara, the chief administrative officer of the metropolitan city, has issued directives to all ward offices to make the necessary arrangements for collecting taxes. The metropolitan office has also released a public notice encouraging residents to visit their local ward offices to pay their land taxes.
