KATHMANDU: The BP Highway, which remained blocked for four days due to floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall, has resumed operations.
The Division Road Office in Bhaktapur confirmed that traffic movement was restored this morning following the construction of temporary diversions and the clearance of debris at various sections.
Division Chief Suman Yogesh stated that due to high water levels in the Roshi River at Chaukidanda, constructing a diversion along the riverbank was not immediately feasible. Consequently, traffic has been rerouted through an inner track near the water pump house. Once the water levels subside, a permanent diversion will be constructed along the riverbank, officials said.
Floods in the Roshi River had washed away temporary diversions in Chaukidanda, Katunje, Piple, and Mamti. Additionally, landslides at Daunne-Kalopul and Charsayabesi had obstructed the road. Efforts to clear the route began on Monday morning. Currently, single-lane traffic is permitted in high-risk areas, and work is underway to restore full two-way traffic flow as soon as possible.
