CAAN urges public not to fly kites, balloons and drones near TIA

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has urged the public to refrain from flying kites, balloons, or operating drones near Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), citing potential risks to aircraft operations and passenger safety during the Dashain festival.

The TIA Civil Aviation Office issued the appeal after observing a significant rise in kite-flying activities around the airport area with the start of Dashain.

According to the aviation office, kites, strings, threads, balloons, and drones flying in aircraft approach and takeoff corridors can obstruct flight operations and pose serious risks during landing and takeoff. Such activities are prohibited under existing civil aviation laws.

TIA management has begun coordinating with local authorities, security agencies, and other concerned organizations to prevent possible aviation hazards. Awareness campaigns are being conducted through official and social media platforms, while miking programs are also being carried out in neighborhoods surrounding the airport.

The airport authority has appealed to parents, children, and local residents to cooperate with the authorities and avoid activities that could endanger aircraft and passengers.

The authority stressed that maintaining aviation safety is a shared responsibility and called on the public to act responsibly during the festive season.
