KATHMANDU: The Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, led a delegation to inspect the temporary infrastructure of the immigration office at the Korala border point in Mustang. The ambassador arrived in Lomanthang via the Korala border on Saturday.
The delegation included five Chinese officials and two staff members from the Chinese Embassy in Nepal. According to Lomanthang Rural Municipality Chairman Tashi Narbu Gurung, this marks the first high-level visit by a Chinese ambassador through the northern Korala border crossing.
Chairman Gurung stated that the ambassador visited Mustang to monitor the overall situation at the border and to discuss the full opening of the Korala point.
Currently, the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border remains completely closed due to the Bhotekoshi flood that occurred on Aug. 26. Additionally, the Tatopani border crossing is also fully closed. Given these circumstances, local observers in Mustang are viewing the Chinese ambassador’s visit as significant.
