KATHMANDU: CK Raut has been elected unopposed as the national chairman of the Janamat Party. Raut was the sole candidate for the party’s top leadership position during the nomination process held on Thursday for the party’s second general convention.
While the position of chairman was decided without a contest, elections will be held for other party posts. The central election committee reported that the number of candidates for various positions exceeded expectations for the upcoming convention, scheduled for Sept. 25-26 in Birgunj.
According to Rajesh Kumar Mandal, member-secretary of the party’s central election committee, 14 candidates have filed nominations for the seven vice-chairperson positions. The candidates include Basanta Kumar Kushwaha, Anita Sah, Anita Mandal, Dr. Jayakant Raut, Narendra Prasad Chaudhary, Madhav Prasad Singh, Rajkumar Yadav Tyagi, Dr. Kamarullah Ansari, Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Madanesh Kumar Chaudhary, Parmeshwar Murmu, Roshan Khatun, Harpal Singh Sodhi, and Manohari Devi Baitha.
For the position of general secretary, Mamata Jha, Chandan Kumar Singh, and Sanjay Kumar Yadav have filed nominations. Nirmal Kumar Mandal and Lalit Chandra Mallik are competing for the single deputy general secretary post. Additionally, 10 candidates have registered for the seven secretary positions. While Raut’s leadership is confirmed, party delegates will cast their votes to elect representatives for the remaining contested roles.
