Congress convention: Bhandari leads for vice president, Paudel for general secretary

KATHMANDU: The vote counting for the 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress is currently underway. The counting for the positions of vice president and general secretary began on Saturday evening at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur.

According to election officials, 2,231 votes have been counted out of a total of 7,043 cast. In the race for vice president, Dr. Chandra Kanta Bhandari is leading with 1,057 votes, followed by E. Madhu Acharya with 712 and Surendra Raj Pandey with 680.

Other candidates include Govinda Bhattarai with 609, Dhanraj Gurung with 406, Deepak Giri with 301, and Prof. Dr. Chandra Mohan Yadav with 193.

In the inclusive category for vice president, Binod Kumar Chaudhary leads with 615 votes, followed by Jeevan Pariyar with 578, Sita Gurung with 334, Farmullah Mansoor with 285, and Ranjit Karna with 183. For the position of general secretary, Pradeep Paudel is maintaining a significant lead with 1,381 votes.

Other candidates for the open category include Uday Shumsher Rana with 786, Amar Singh Pun with 695, Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma with 526, Guru Raj Ghimire with 328, Nain Singh Mahar with 270, Shankar Tiwari with 46, and Dr. Santosh Upadhyaya with 28. In the women’s category for general secretary, Dr. Dila Sangraula (Panta) is leading with 965 votes, followed closely by Mahalaxmi Upadhyaya (Dina) with 952. Rita Khanal has secured 251 votes. The counting process continues.
