KATHMANDU: Leaders of the CPN-UML are holding a residential meeting in Kavrepalanchok to resolve disputes surrounding the report prepared by the party’s task force on purification, strengthening, transformation, and restructuring. The leaders traveled to the district on Saturday for the discussions.
The 15-member task force was formed on May 23 under the coordination of vice-chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa following a decision by the party secretariat. After collecting feedback from various provinces, a conflict arose when coordinator Thapa presented a separate report alongside the one prepared by general secretary Shankar Pokharel. According to Niraj Acharya, head of the party’s central publicity and publication department, the task force is working to reconcile the two documents to ensure a unanimous report.
The task force held its first meeting on June 8 in the presence of party chairman KP Sharma Oli. The current effort aims to merge the differing viewpoints into a single document to be presented before the secretariat. With the party’s third full central committee meeting scheduled for Sept. 21-23, following the recent Bhote Koshi floods, there is a push to finalize the report. The leaders are scheduled to return to Kathmandu on Sunday after concluding their discussions.
