Death toll from Himlung avalanche reaches 15

MANANG: The death toll from the avalanche that struck the Himlung region in Narpabhumi Rural Municipality-5 of Manang has reached 15. Police reported that one person remains missing.

The missing individual has been identified as 38-year-old Pasang Nuri Sherpa from Okhaldhunga. Search operations for Sherpa are currently underway. Among those confirmed dead are Chevi Bhote and Pasang Bhote from Sankhuwasabha, Birendra Gurung and Aash Gurung from Gorkha, and Ghanshyam Rai, Lak Kumar Gurung, and Suraj Rai from Khotang.

Additionally, the deceased include Kalam Budha from Rukum East, Birkhadhwoj Tamang and Jagat Tamang from Kavrepalanchok, Urkhadhwoj Bohora from Sindhupalchok, Prem Tamang from Okhaldhunga, and Kriti Bahadur Tamang from Dolakha. Authorities also recovered the bodies of Nima Dorje Tamang and Santabir Tamang, whose ages and addresses remain unverified.

On Sept. 18, a group of 27 men, including 21 from Himalaya Holiday Company and 6 from Imaging Nepal, had traveled from Kathmandu to establish a base camp in the Himlung area. They were caught in an avalanche at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Sept. 27. Of those affected, 11 individuals were found safe, while 16 were initially reported missing.
