KATHMANDU: The death toll from the avalanche at Himlung Himal in Narpa Bhumi Rural Municipality-5 of Manang has reached four. Police confirmed that two additional bodies were recovered on Monday.
The victims were part of a group of 12 individuals who went missing after an avalanche struck the base camp. A total of 22 Nepali citizens had set out on Aug. 30 through various trekking agencies to establish the base camp. While 10 individuals managed to reach Phu village safely, the remaining 12 were caught in the avalanche.
The bodies of 52-year-old Chebi Bhote from Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-3 and 31-year-old Pasang Bhote from Bhotkhola-2 of Sankhuwasabha, who were recovered earlier, have been sent to the Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu. Police stated that the identities of the two individuals found on Monday have not yet been established. Preparations are underway to transport these bodies to Kathmandu as well.
Search and rescue operations for the remaining missing individuals are ongoing.
