KATHMANDU: Dengue infections are on the rise across Gorkha district. The Provincial Public Health Office in Gorkha reported that 81 cases have been confirmed between Aug. 17 and Sept. 8.
Public health officer Sita Koirala stated that the infections are spread across seven of the district’s 11 local levels. According to the data, Gorkha Municipality recorded 41 cases, followed by Arughat Rural Municipality with 22, Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality with five, Ajirkot and Palungtar with four each, and two each in Dharche and Sahid Lakhan rural municipalities. Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality reported one case.
In response to the increasing infection rate, authorities have urged local bodies to conduct awareness programs and intensify sanitation campaigns. Arughat Rural Municipality has issued a public notice advising residents to take precautions, specifically by removing discarded tires, drums, and other items that could serve as mosquito breeding grounds.
The Provincial Public Health Office has requested that owners of garages, tire centers, and residential properties clear stagnant water and maintain clean surroundings to prevent mosquito breeding. The office has issued a seven-day ultimatum to tire depot operators to manage their inventory properly. Failure to comply within the specified timeframe will result in the confiscation and disposal of the materials by the health office. Health officials emphasized that the primary method to prevent dengue is to avoid mosquito bites.
