KATHMANDU: The Department of Occupational Safety and Health and its subordinate offices have secured Rs 28.35 million in wage payments by the end of the Nepali month of Bhadra (mid-September) for the fiscal year 2083/84. According to the department, Rs 14.31 million in withheld wages was recovered in Bhadra alone through complaints, mediation, and departmental directives.
During the same period, Rs 5.55 million in payments was settled through mutual agreements between workers and establishments. The department recorded 148 individual and 3 collective claims, while 63 labor disputes were resolved during the review period.
To ensure compliance with labor laws, the department conducted labor inspections in 248 establishments and child labor inspections in 244 establishments during Bhadra. By the end of the month, a total of 619 establishment inspections and 595 child labor inspections had been completed. Additionally, 386 labor audit reports were received.
In terms of institutional activities, 3 new trade unions were registered and 18 were renewed during the month. The department also issued 5 new licenses for labor supply companies and renewed 47 others. One industrial accident was recorded during the month. The department stated that it continues to provide services to the public based on a first-come, first-served policy.
