KATHMANDU: Chairman of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal administered the oath of office and secrecy to Krishna Prasad Paudel, the newly elected chair of the parliamentary special committee on disaster study and monitoring of the Bhote Koshi and Kaligandaki corridors.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the parliamentary committee hall in Singha Durbar in the presence of Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam.
The National Assembly formed the nine-member special committee during its meeting on Oct. 2. The committee has a provision to add one more member later, and Paudel was elected unopposed as its chair. Following the oath, Paudel convened the committee’s first meeting.
He stated that the committee would focus on the hardships faced by citizens, children, women, new mothers and people with disabilities due to disasters in the Bhote Koshi and Kaligandaki corridors. Paudel committed to preparing a report based on facts and data to minimize future disaster damage. He said, “We plan to work day and night for three months to do an exemplary job for the country and its citizens,” adding that the report would be credible and implementable. The committee will also seek assistance from subject matter experts and study national and international practices to ensure the findings are effective.
